Mari Lou Morelli -- Last Woman Standing in the 2010 LAPC World Poker Tour Main Event

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 4, 2010 -- On Friday, 26 February, 745 entrants, satellite winner Mari Lou Morelli and some of pokers elite, fell upon the Commerce Casino in Commerce, CA for the 2010 LA Poker Classic’s $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event. Top pro’s including Daniel Negreanu, Kathy Liebert, Gus Hansen, Johnny Chan, Howard Lederer, Carlos Mortensen, Annie Duke, Tim Begley, Mark Newhouse, JJ Liu, Hoytt Corkins, Barry Greenstein, Gavin Griffin, Sabyl Cohen, Mark Seif, Todd Brunson, Allen Cunningham, JC Tran, Victor Ramdin, Nam Le, Tom Dwan, Freddy Deeb, Paul Wasicka, Nenad Medic, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Miami John Cernuto, and Phil Hellmuth all came out for their chance at the $7,152,000 dollar prize pool.

There among the long list of seasoned professionals was Mari Lou Morelli from Long Beach, CA, who had won her seat in a mega satellite the night before. Morelli, like many other notable women in the field was hoping to make poker history by being the first woman to take first place in a World Poker Tour $10,000 buy-in main event. After five days of play, Morelli found herself and her poker mentor Annie Duke as the last two women left in the field. During an on camera interview, Tournament Director Matt Savage asked, “Rumor has it, that you attended Annie Duke’s boot camp, and also had a private lesson.” After Morelli confirmed that information Savage replied, “It must be exciting to be on day five of a 10K event playing against her for 1.7 million dollars.” “It is!” Morelli responded. Morelli, a long time fan of Duke’s, felt honored to play side by side with her until Duke was knocked out.

With a shot at the title in plain sight, Morelli was crippled when she called Tim Begley’s all in a preflop bet with AcKf against his Tf T e f. The board came 8f5e3`5`2e and Begley doubled up to nearly 1 million chips. Morelli was left with only 25K in chips and was eliminated on the next hand in 11th place for $67,940. This recent cash secures Morelli’s place in the top 100 of professional female players and brings her career earnings, since her start in 2007, to over $250,000. “I’m more of a cash game player,” Morelli admits “I love tournaments but I only play if I win a seat.” Some of her notable tournament finishes have been a 1st place at the Venetian Deepstack and a 3rd place WSOP cash.
